Fishing adventure: Sport fishing in El Chaltén, and throughout the province of Santa Cruz.

The sport fishing season in El Chaltén (brown trout, rainbow trout, and salmon) runs from November to April. If your specific target is the prized King Salmon, fishing in our Río de las Vueltas takes place between mid-December and the end of March. Also, for seasoned anglers who dare to take on the challenge of catching salmon when they enter freshwater from the sea, we organize trips to other parts of the province, for example, on the Santa Cruz River, based in the beautiful city of Comandante Luis Piedra Buena in September and October.

You will be accompanied by a local guide with years of experience in the rivers of Patagonia. They know every corner of the Río de las Vueltas and exactly where the best fishing spots are. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, you will feel safe, learn, and enjoy an unforgettable day.

True Stories, Unforgettable Adventures

I contacted Gerardo on WhatsApp because I was staying in El Chalten for a few days and wanted to try salmon fishing. He warned me it wasn't easy, but it was worth a try. He picked me up early in the morning and took me to a beautiful river. I was very lucky and caught a small salmon on my very first cast of the day. During the day, I lost two much larger salmon. Gerardo is a great guide; he knows his river inside out, the best access points, and the best salmon pools. After fishing, we ended the day with a delicious churrasco meal prepared entirely by Gerardo right next to the river. I really had a great day with Gerardo, who is a true enthusiast. I 100% recommend him !

A memory of a lifetime

This part of Patagonia is absolutely beautiful and from the start, we knew we were in good hands with Gerardo (owner/operator/guide). There were two of us in our group, one an experienced and confident angler, the other far less experienced and confident (me). I have fished with a half-dozen guides in open water and in rivers from Alaska, to Panama and Mexico. All of them have known how to fish and where to fish and Gerardo was the first and only one of them that made me feel at ease and helped me build my confidence fishing at a high level. Gero is an excellent teacher and an even better motivator. He never once made me feel inferior (which almost all of the other guides did). He was our champion from the start and was determined to put us onto the big salmon that we knew were in the river. His genuine excitement and passion for these waters kept us motivated on a rainy, drizzly morning. Finally, I hooked a beautiful, peak king that put up a tremendous fight, and even though I lost the fish after a long battle, Gerardo assured me that I had done a great job. Only after celebrating the fact that I had hooked our first fish of the day, and a beast at that, did he give me super constructive feedback on what I might have done differently to land it. This adrenaline inducing point was a couple hours into our adventure fishing multiple rivers from numerous spots, wading waist deep through the beautiful Patagonian waters. Gerardo was determined for my partner to get a fish and with our last cast of the day, my partner landed a 30+ lb King. We agreed it was the best day fishing we had shared together and then we finished the day with a delicious and relaxing meal of meats, cheeses, good wine and a perfectly cooked steak all prepared by Gero. A memory of a lifetime.
